Homework at ECPS

Homework Consultation Initial Findings

Homework at Easingwold Primary School

We see homework as a significant contributor to stronger academic outcomes. Being responsible for their own time management and independent work is also useful in preparing children for the demands of Key Stage 3.

All children are expected to read their book five times a week and record this reading in their Reading Record. While they are developing their decoding skills, this will be a book from the Little Wandle Scheme or as children progress on from the scheme, this will be a library book suitable for their age group. Parents are asked to sign the Reading Record as well as read with their children when they can. Younger children also have access to the Library. These books are perfect for parents to read to/with their children at bedtime.

KS2 receive Maths and SPaG homework every Friday and this is due to be returned on Wednesday morning.

SPaG homework is marked and returned to the children by Friday. Maths homework is marked by the child once complete. Both staff and self-marking of the homework provides invaluable information to the teacher and child as to how confident the child is at tackling concepts independently. The information derived from the homework is used to inform next steps in learning.

What if my child struggles with homework?

All homework is set based on what has already been taught within school so everyone should be able to complete their work independently at home. If you are finding homework a challenge, please do not worry. Remind your child to ask their teacher on Monday for some help or attend the Homework Club to access additional support.  If homework continues to be problematic then please speak with us. We are happy to make reasonable adjustments, where a genuine barrier to learning exists. These are made on a case by case basis.

How can I communicate with the teacher?

If you wish to raise something this can be done in writing, in the homework book or you can jot down some points in the Reading Record as these are also seen by the teacher. Please do not forget that you can also send a message on Dojo; telephone or pop in and speak with a member of staff too.
