At ECPS we LOVE to read!
We are rounded readers because we read a wide range of texts such as; stories, poems, news articles and non-fiction texts.
We are fluent readers because from day one, we are taught phonics by our very skilled teachers and if we need extra help we get it quickly so that we can keep up. We continue to be taught phonics until we can read with fluency.
We are skilled readers because we are taught to make predictions, summarise what we have read and answer questions about the text to show we understand it.
We are expressive readers because we get the chance to listen to our teachers and friends read to us and we practice using expression when we read out loud. We get the chance to practice reading out loud in assemblies, at church services and other special events.
We are passionate readers because reading is at the heart of our curriculum, we are surrounded by high quality texts in our school library. Our library has been stocked with a range of 'New and Bold' and 'Old and Gold' texts. The 'New and Bold' selection includes the 50 recommended reads for each year group along with a range of diverse texts and authors. The 'Old and Gold' selection are from chosen British authors of classic books that teachers and pupils want to share in school. Each year group learns about an author from the 'Old and Gold' range and has the opportunity to share these books in school and at home.
